So often, I think that even Christians look at the Holy Bible as just a collection of fairy tales. Noah built an ark of obedience, yes he really did. Joshua did destroy Jericho blowing horns. David did defeat Goliath. Jesus did tell the thief on the cross that he would go with Jesus to heaven right then. Indeed, God did create all heavens and earth knowing every detail of it for all time before he created it.
If we don’t take it seriously and know it is true to every single word, how can we think we will convert others to faith in Jesus? I often wonder if we don’t do our children injustice with “stories” from the Bible. Hey friends, that book is simply truth without exaggeration. Jesus did say that we could accomplish even more than Him with faith. Mark 9:23 Says this, “All things are possible for the one who believes.” John 14:12 puts it like this, I tell you the solemn truth, the person who believes in me will perform the miraculous deeds that I am doing, and will perform greater deeds than these, because I am going to the Father.
To me, I believe that the Word is indeed God, and God does not stretch the truth or need to embellish the story. Mark 21:29-31 says, Jesus answered, “The most important is: ‘Listen, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Jesus said that we must love our neighbors as we love ourselves. That means that we should equally love all people and love them equally to our love of ourself. This is the second most important commandment, so it is advisable – no, imperative – to get this right.
Come on, though, doesn’t this blow your mind? Have you ever given this a second thought? Do you think Jesus was just kidding? I bet you do. I have never had this discussion outside my home (obviously talking with Julie) that I wasn’t called or implied as crazy for simply reading the words of the Bible. I think your eternal destiny depends on your ability to understand this and even try to do this. Now get this, I think your eternal destiny may even depend on whether you succeed at doing this.
I s that really that crazy? Remember that our God, Jesus Christ was and is perfect, totally holy. He did say this was the second most important thing for us to do. He told us to follow Him, not ignore Him or act like He was exaggerating or not willing us the right path to eternal relationship with God our creator the perfectly holy one.
I guarantee you one thing, you will not accomplish this if you do not try. After all, some people seem to delight in making this difficult for us to love them, right? However, how many worthwhile things are you able to accomplish if you don’t even try? Don’t you agree that without trying, the world of satan will drag us down far below the holy standard Jesus set for us?
My motto is to live my life as if it were to be written as a chapter in the Bible. Wouldn’t you like to see Jesus standing in heaven at the right hand of God, like Steven? Yes, how about a standing ovation from our savior? Or how would you like to be called a man of God’s own heart, like David? Can you honestly say that you deserve His praise if you can’t even try to obey the two overriding commandments to love God with all our hearts and to love our neighbors as ourselves?
