Repentance and Forgiveness

According to John 8:1-11,
“Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.”

I want you to focus on what Jesus had told her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. No condemnation, but He also told her to go and sin no more.

There is a problem in the church today. It’s called sin, and we, you and I are the church. Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. As individuals, we house the very presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are to be in Him, and He abides in us. The church also houses the presence and power of the Lord, as an assembling place for the corporate body of Christ where all are fitted together into one mind and body (that of Jesus Christ).

Most understand the power of forgiveness and the grace of God to do so, however many have not understood or choose not to understand Repentance.

In Matthew 4:16-17, the bible says: “The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Repent, what does the word Repent mean? Simply put, it means – turn from sin and dedicate oneself to the amendment of one’s life. It is the act of the act of amending or correction, to change one’s mind, actions and thinking.

Too often today and in the hour in which we currently live, Christians are applying forgiveness without repentance, so they continue confessing, or they justify it to the Lord. “Lord I’m living with them because… I know I shouldn’t be in a sexual relationship not being married but,… God I needed that money… I had to tell them that I know it’s not the truth but, Everyone watches that, or listens to that.” “I know she’s not my husband or wife, you know Lord that situation at home is bad and I deserve to get my needs met… It really didn’t harm anyone, I’m only human God, I’ll change as soon as……. or somehow confess God’s grace is sufficient to cover my to cover my unwillingness to change, to repent, to amend my actions and begin to act on the word of God.”

To repent is to receive forgiveness and walk in God’s love. commandment, word and will for my life.

Hebrews 4: 4-6 it say this: “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.”

My prayer is that it doesn’t become too late, that we repent of our sin and rebellion while claiming the truth. If your heart is open and you are willing to repent, to amend your life I believe it’s not too late.

I know that we all sin, the Bible tells us that we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and if any man claims he has no sin, he is a liar. All of us make mistakes, all of us have fallen short of the glory of God, however if we willfully and purposely by our own justification do those things and act out in ways that contradict the bible and the truth we know, no matter how we try to twist and interpret, we are far from the will of God in our lives and only fool ourselves. Make no mistake, friends, God is not mocked.

Look at Acts 17:29-31 with me. Paul states “Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.”
Today this very hour, the Lord is no longer winking at us if we are living contrary to His word. All the world’s images, ways and practices must go, we must repent and separate ourselves from them and dedicate ourselves to Him, the Lord Jesus Christ. In repentance, our forgiveness is complete. We show forth the love and power of the Lord.

1 Corinthians 6:9 says this: “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

Beloved of Christ, turn to the Lord let us seek His forgiveness and repent for the kingdom of our God is at hand.

The Apostle Paul states in Romans chapter 7, “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The Lord will deliver, He will forgive and give you the authority in life to live for Him. Repent, turn away, change everything you need to change. Do it now, do it quickly…. To God be all the Glory.
